United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR)

TOPIC A: Addressing Asylum Seekers

How will we protect the rights and livelihoods of asylum seekers while tackling warfare, political persecution, and other drivers of people seeking asylum?

TOPIC B: Addressing Economic, Social, Domestic Issues Associated With Refugees

Tackling xenophobia, racism and extreme nationalism while addressing economic factors. How will your country deal with a mass influx of refugees economically while taking account of the social and cultural integration of these people?

Head Chair: Vadim Kabardin

To my dear delegates! My name is Vadim Kabardin, and I have the absolute honor of being your UNHCR head chair for DMUNC XXIII. I’m a third-year International Relations major (looking to minor in either Spanish or Russian) with aspirations to attend law school after undergrad. Contemporary issues surrounding immigration and asylum seekers have pushed me towards pursuing immigration law, and as such, sparked the idea for this committee’s topics. I began my MUN journey in high school, having picked it back up at the collegiate level after remembering how much fun I had in high school committees. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences MUN has given me, especially in chairing at this year’s conference. I look forward to meeting all of you and seeing what creative solutions you bring to the UNHCR committee!
