The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is a UN agency dedicated to protecting the rights and well-being of refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless people worldwide. The committee’s primary mission is to ensure individuals forced to flee their home countries due to persecution, violence, or conflict can access safety, essential resources, and opportunities for resettlement and assimilation in stable, welcoming nations. UNHCR also works to uphold international laws concerning refugees and fosters cooperation between nations to address global displacement challenges effectively.
As delegates, you will be tasked with developing actionable solutions to ensure the protection and resettlement of displaced populations while addressing root causes of forced migration. Delegates must navigate complex international relations and resource constraints while proposing realistic, cooperative strategies to safeguard human rights.

Head Chair: Neya Ahmed
My name is Neya Ahmed. I am a first-year student majoring in international relations. I plan to double major in African American studies and minor in human rights. I have a passion for social justice, which also led me to pursue the pre-law track in my studies. Hopefully, one day, I will become a human rights lawyer.
I started model UN during my sophomore year in high school and have been invested in this community ever since. Model UN has further expanded my passion for learning the ins and outs of international law and I hope Model UN could spark a passion that you invested in as well.
